Backup Connectivity Explained
Under normal conditions, the Ajax Hub connects to the Ajax Cloud using an Ethernet cable connected to your router. If your internet connection goes offline, the SIM card automatically takes over using mobile data to maintain the Cloud connection. This ensures that alarm notifications, such as intruder, tamper, or system alerts, continue to be delivered to your mobile phone.
In a real-world scenario, an intruder may attempt to disable a security system by cutting the power or internet supply. When this happens, the broadband router shuts down and notifications would normally stop. However, the Ajax Hub includes a built-in backup battery that keeps the system running during power loss. When combined with the SIM card, the hub remains connected to the Ajax Cloud via the mobile network, ensuring alerts and notifications continue even if power or internet is cut.

Important update: 2G and 3G network closure – future-proof your Hub with 4G
Mobile networks in the UK are gradually phasing out older 2G and 3G services, with a full switch-off planned by 2033. While there’s no need to worry right now, equipment that relies only on 2G or 3G will eventually stop working.
